Jesus' To-Do List

By By Jean Boonstra

Do you like to make to-do lists? A lot of people do! Some people couldn’t remember most of what they have to do in a day without one. Did you know that Jesus gave us a to-do list in the Bible? He did—let’s read it.

“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature’” (Mark 16:15).

This is Jesus’ final to-do list for His followers. Go into the whole world and preach the gospel—tell the world about Him.

During His time on this earth, Jesus taught and helped people. He healed the sick, saved the lost, and helped the helpless. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He spent a few precious days with His disciples. It was then that He shared His final to-do list.

The list is very short. It has one item—go into the whole world and preach the gospel.

You probably have a long “Life to-do list.” Learn to drive! Graduate from high school. Visit South America. Go to college. Become a teacher or a nurse or a sumo wrestler. Fly an airplane. Your “Life to-do list” probably has many things on it. And that is good. God wants you to do many things. But He only has one thing that He asks you to put on your to-do list: Tell the world about Him.

As you’re making your “Life to-do list,” will you include this item from Jesus? You might be wondering, How? Does Jesus ask everyone to be a pastor or a missionary?

No, the world needs firefighters, engineers, and babysitters too. Still, Jesus’ to-do list is for everyone.

Everyone can do his or her part to tell the world about Him. Dentists can serve on mission trips where they help the poor. They can share Jesus’ love as they help the needy with their tooth pain. Writers can write stories about Him. Astronauts can volunteer to help in Bible school classes at church. And business people can donate money to help and support missionaries and pastors. And each and every one of us can do one very important thing—we can all pray.

Remember Jesus’ to-do list when you make your “Life to-do list.” No matter what your future holds—even if you end up being a world-famous sumo wrestler—you can include Jesus’ to-do list in yours. Go and tell the world about Him and make it a wonderful new day—a new day with Jesus!
