A Change That Matters

By Melissa Bradshaw

On November 2, many of us will set our clocks ahead one hour as Daylight Savings Time ends (except for those living in Arizona and Hawaii, the only two states where Daylight Saving Time is not observed). Sometimes it can take a little time to get adjusted to the time change! How do you deal with change?

Life is full of changes. Maybe you changed schools because you moved to a new town. With that, you had to start over with new teachers, and make new friends after leaving your old friends—and maybe relatives—behind.

Change is all around us, and it can be a good thing. Have you ever redecorated your room or changed around the furniture? Maybe your favorite color, food or favorite pastime has changed. Weather and seasons change, fashion and hairstyles change, cars have changed over the years, and the list goes on and on.

sun and moonDid you know there is one thing that never changes and will never, ever change? Yes! If you guessed “God,” you are right.

The Bible tells us in Malachi 3:6, “For I am the Lord, I do not change.” And Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” God never changes.

Related to this is the fact that no matter what you have done in the past, or the mistakes that you might make in the future, God’s love for you will never change.

Look at this precious promise from Jeremiah 31:3. “The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.’” Another word for everlasting is “endless.” There is no end to God’s love for you.

You see, long ago when sin first entered the world, God loved his children so much that He was determined to restore His creation to its original state. As part of that plan, He made a difficult decision to allow His precious and only Son to go on a journey that would ultimately result in His death—a death that would demonstrate the depth of love He has for you, and that would give you the opportunity to have eternal life.

This month, as you reflect this sacrifice made on your behalf, it is my prayer that you will make a commitment to live your life each day for the One who gave His life for you. Tell Jesus today that you accept His sacrifice, and make your heart your place for Jesus!
